The White House administration announced the start of a project to modernize and adapt Soviet anti-aircraft missile systems to Western missiles. The project, called "FrankenSAM", will be implemented both in the USA and in Ukraine.

The move is part of a broader plan to speed up rearmament and strengthen air defense. Previously, the United States had already carried out a similar modernization of the Soviet Buk complexes, which made it possible to adapt them for the use of Western missiles.

According to preliminary data, the operating range of air defense systems will not change, however, the key reason for modernization is the lack of missiles for such systems in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while the United States clearly has a surplus of missiles.
