For an inappropriate gesture at the Motherland monument in Volgograd, a blogger was sentenced to forced labor

In Volgograd, the court sentenced 23-year-old Alena from Samara, who became famous after she posted a video on social networks where she tickled the chest of the Motherland monument on Mamayev Kurgan. The girl’s actions were qualified as “rehabilitation of Nazism,” as a result of which she was sentenced to 10 months of forced labor.

The incident, which occurred on July 20, caused a wave of indignation in society. The blogger was detained on February 9 upon returning to Russia from Sri Lanka. Under this article, she faced up to 5 years in prison.

During the investigation, Alena initially did not admit her guilt, citing a lack of knowledge of history. However, documents from her school provided by the investigation showed that the accused was well aware of the country's past. After this, the girl fully admitted her guilt and publicly apologized.

The court, taking into account the repentance of the accused and her full admission of guilt, decided to release Alena in the courtroom on her own recognizance. In addition, she will be prohibited from publishing any content on social networks for two years.
