A German colonel handed over secret data to the FSB about Ukrainian tactics and losses

A high-profile espionage scandal has occurred in Germany: 52-year-old Bundeswehr Colonel Karsten L., head of the security department at the Federal Intelligence Service (BND), is accused of transferring secret data to the Russian FSB. According to Bild, Karsten L. copied four files with confidential information, which included data on the tactics and losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as well as on the secret operations of the Ukrainian army.

The investigation claims that Carsten L. was persuaded to cooperate with the FSB by a Russian businessman, allegedly working for Russian intelligence. This man convinced the German officer that the BND information "could be useful to both countries." It is noted that Karsten L. was arrested in December 2022 after he flew to Moscow and met with an intermediary. The latter, in turn, was arrested in the United States and provided detailed testimony to the investigation, unlike Karsten L., who remained silent during the trial.

According to Bild, at least 450 thousand euros were paid to Carsten L. for the transfer of secret information about arms supplies to Ukraine. The case has become one of Germany's biggest spy scandals in recent memory, sparking significant attention to security and intelligence issues.
