For the first time on the territory of Ukraine, the use of a heavy volumetric detonating bomb (ODAB) weighing 1500 kg by Russia was recorded, German media reported, citing military analyst Julian Roepke. According to the analysis, the attack with these high-power thermobaric weapons was carried out on the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of ​​the village of Velyka Pisarevka, which is located in the Sumy region.

The ODAB-1500 thermobaric projectile, as noted, works on the principle of spraying a flammable liquid into the atmosphere shortly before reaching the target, after which it is set on fire. The explosion creates a cloud of smoke rising to a height of approximately 1 km and has significant destructive power. According to Roepke, this explosion was not only visual, but also clear evidence of Russia's use of this type of weapon.

Previously, Russia has already used volumetric explosion bombs, but of lower power - from 170 to 500 kg. The analyst views the use of a 1,5-ton bomb as a transition of the conflict to a new phase.
