NATO ship blew up on a sea mine in the Black Sea

The ship of the Romanian Navy was blown up by a naval mine near the border with Ukraine.

As a result of the detonation of a sea mine, the ship of the Romanian Navy received significant damage, but retained buoyancy. According to the Reuters news agency, as a result of the incident, the dead were avoided, however, according to other sources, the ship temporarily lost its maneuverability.

Avia.pro journalists managed to find out that a Romanian Navy warship was in the area in order to search for sea mines and carry out mine clearance work. However, presumably due to a crew error, the ship ran into a mine. It is noted that this is the third time that Romania sends its warships to clear the waters of the Black Sea, and although the explosions of ships on sea mines in the Black Sea were recorded earlier, this is the first incident in the case of warships.

Quite remarkable is the fact that NATO countries have previously tried to promote the idea of sending their warships to the waters of the Black Sea, ostensibly for demining. This does not exclude the possibility that the incident that occurred may become an aid to Turkey's new persuasion to open the Bosphorus for ships of NATO countries, which may well be used to monitor the maritime situation in the region.
