Development of a new strategic missile system has begun in Russia

Russia is developing a new mobile strategic missile system designed to replace the existing Yars complex. This was stated by the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces (RVSN), Colonel General Sergei Karakaev in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper.

Karakaev emphasized that as part of research and development (R&D), research is being carried out to determine the technical appearance and possible ways to create a new complex. These studies involve continuous work to improve missile weapons, which allows timely decisions to be made on starting the development of new and modernizing existing systems.

Karakaev also clarified that, based on the research carried out, the state weapons program and other federal programs include tasks to create a scientific, technical and technological reserve to ensure the creation and modernization of strategic missile systems.

At the same time, the Colonel General noted that the mobile group of the Strategic Missile Forces had already completely rearmed itself with the Yars complex. In addition, he announced that work on the creation of a new stationary silo-based missile system "Sarmat" is approaching completion, which has unique tactical and technical characteristics and is the embodiment of the advanced achievements of the domestic rocket and space industry.
